David's Blog
Welcome to my blog! Instead of trying to remember everyone's email adresses, I'm trying my hand at this exciting new world of blogging. Here's the plan:
With Jim, Nick, and Pete, I'll set off June 1st to Bangkok. We'll backpack across Thailand and Cambodia into Vietnam.
The summer will be in Vietnam, learning Vietnamese (because you all know how great I am with languages....), taking classes, and teaching English to street boys learning how to start a restauarant. The second half of the summer is working in the countryside with the Communist Youth Party to do development work and explore my love: socialism.
I'll be home for 3 days in August. On August 20th it's off to South Africa. I'm doing research work for two weeks as I trek from Capetown to Johannesburg. My first experience with solo backpacking--this should be 10 exciting days!
For the whole fall semester I'm studying in Uganda with the School for International Training. I'll do rural development work in the countryside, intern in the capital, take classes with University of Makare professors, and even spend two weeks in Rwanda looking at conflict resolution.
I've gotten extra pages added to the passport, visas issued, and checked out a few travel books, but there'll be a lot of playing it by ear! Come check out the stories, watch the photos go up, and enjoy. Thanks for reading!

David,
You've got quite an adventure ahead of you. I'm glad to see you'll be recording and sharing it via a blog. I know you'll come back next year a transformed, Vietnamese-speaking (and Luganda-speaking?) young man!
